Once you’ve been blogging as long as I have you’ll realize that there are an unlimited number of ways you can make money with your blog and, if you do it right, you can make a lot of money. The same can be said for just about any type of business. But, how do you start a blog, or any business, and turn it into a million dollar business? 

Admit You’re In It For The Money

Are you the type of blogger who just wants to help people? You just want to share your knowledge and bring enlightenment to the world? You really don’t care if you make money, you just want to provide information? Isn’t that sweet? How’s that workin’ out?

No successful business person starts a business because he wants to help people and spread good cheer. It doesn’t make good business sense. To build a business you have to invest lots of time, money and good, old-fashioned elbow grease. His business might provide a valuable service and it might make people very happy, but he started the business because he wanted to make money. That’s it. Pure and simple.

Now, the standard advice is that you should blog about something you’re passionate about, because you’re going to be blogging for a very long time so you want to choose a topic that will hold your interest.

34% of businesses can’t calculate email marketing ROI: report #EmailMarketing #OnlineBusiness

email marketing roiJust over a third of businesses (34%) are unable to calculate the revenue earned from email marketing, according to a new survey from the DMA.

Only 60% of respondents said that they could calculate the revenue return, despite the fact that a vast majority of businesses (89%) said email marketing was either ‘very important’ or ‘important’.

This tallies with data from the new Econsultancy/Responsys Marketing Budgets 2013 Report, which found that only 52% of businesses rate their ability to measure ROI from email marketing as ‘good’.

According to the DMA’s report, of those who can calculate the ROI one-fifth (20%) accrue more than £51 for every pound spent, while almost a half (49%) of respondents said they achieve an ROI of between £1 and £10 for every £1 spent.

Even so, based on an assumption that the average return for the top category is £55, the estimated average return across all organisations is £21.48 for each £1 spent on email marketing.
